Real Life: Taking a short break

Good morning. I decided I need to take a short break from posting .  My in-laws are coming for the weekend and we are working on our spare bedroom.  I should be back to posting around April 6th. I am sure I will still be stopping by blogs.

Thanks

Lusting For Covers: Beneath Blood And Bone By Madeline Sheehan And Claire C. Riley

Lusting for Covers is a weekly meme, held on Sunday, that allows bloggers to share their current cover obsession with fellow book lovers. This meme is hosted by TBQ @ TBQ's Book Palace.

Beneath Blood & Bone by Madeline Sheehan & Claire C Riley
Series: Thicker Than Blood #2

It is the end of the world…

They call him Eagle. Like the grand and beautiful animal that symbolizes freedom. And during these dark times, when humanity is full of nothing but suffering, a man with such a powerful name should be a beacon of hope.

He is anything but.

Her name is Autumn. Though she hasn’t said this name, or much of anything else, in the four years since the fall of civilization. A shell of her former self, and living wild in a cave at the bottom of a ravine, Autumn is accustomed to being alone. She prefers it actually, especially when her only other options for company are either trying to kill her, or worse, lock her up inside their walls.

Captured by Eagle’s people Autumn is suddenly thrust back into the land of the living, though she would hardly call it living. The community of Purgatory is full of sinners, the most evil of which seem to have set their sights on her.

In an act born of anger and defiance, Eagle becomes Autumn’s unexpected savior forcing these two solitary people into one another’s broken worlds. Neither knows quite what to make of the other, but one thing is certain.
To survive Purgatory, they will need to learn how to rely on each other; a feat that could quite possibly teach them how to live again.
Thoughts: Fell in love with this cover when it first came out a few years ago. Love the gritty feel with a hint of his tattoos.

Love is the most dangerous obsession…

Skye Sullivan is trying to put the pieces of her life back together. She survived a brutal stalker and escaped his abduction, and now she is looking to the future—a future that includes Skye’s lover, billionaire Trace Weston. Skye thinks the danger is finally over for her.

She’s dead wrong.

When Trace’s past comes back to haunt him, Skye discovers that the man she loves isn’t quite who he seems to be. Trace has been leading a double-life. An ex-special forces agent, his military training turned him into the perfect killing machine. He made more than his share of enemies during his time in the military—and as he built his security empire—and one of those enemies is striking back.

He won’t lose her.

Skye is the one weapon that can be used against Trace—his only vulnerability. But he won’t let her go—he can’t. Trace will do anything necessary to protect Skye. Anything. Yet when she discovers the secrets that he’s tried to keep hidden, Skye’s pain and rage may send her running directly into the cross-hairs of a killer…

Thoughts: I absolutely loved book one Mine To Take. Continuing with Trace and Skye story in Mine To Keep book two was outstanding. Wow.  What an amazing read about secrets, lies and betrayal. Unpredictable that is full of twist and turns that I could not swipe my kindle fast enough. Cynthia Eden is a mastermind at storytelling. Just when I thought I had everything figured out she went in another direction that I never seen coming. Nothing is always what it seems in Mine To Keep.  At one point I was actually afraid to swipe my kindle but at the same time I had to know.

Cynthia Eden was at her best in bringing Trace and Skye characters to life. All their actions and feelings were right on. I was right there when they were scared, happy, sad and mad. Their ups and downs were never rushed had just enough to feel what they were feeling.

Skye was more on the fragile side in book one. In Mine To Keep her character grew. After her incident in book 1 all she wants to do is get her life back. Be able do her everyday routine. Well kind of hard for her when Trace is over protective.

Trace that man can be obsessed with me any day.  Book 1 was learning about Skye past and Mine To Keep is all about his past and secrets he wants to keep buried. She brings out the good in him that all he wants to do is move forward with her and leave the past behind. Kind of hard do when his past comes back to haunt him and threatens the only thing he has ever loved, Skye. Readers really get to see how over protective Trace is over Skye. My kind of alpha male. One that is not all talk and is all about kicking some ass when anyone hurts someone they love. Trace can give a good ass kicking and loved every single moment of it.

I loved how the secondary characters Noah and Drake were introduced. Both play a good roll in the plot, have their own voice and personality. Curious about Drake as he is a smart ass and kind of out of control.

Top Ten Tuesday: Shortest books I've read (Some Freebies)

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme  hosted by The Broke and The Bookish. Each week they will post a new Top Ten list that one of the bloggers at The Broke and the Bookish will answer. Everyone is welcome to join.  Have fun with it.

Shortest Books I've Read

Contemporary Romance

FREE
Locked (The Alpha Group Trilogy #1)
By Maya Cross
Pages: 130

Rating 4 Stars - Loved It
This is a trilogy so book 1 ends in a cliffhanger and they will get their happy ending in the last book.

Loved Sebastian (delicious dirty talker) and Sophia. The sexual tension and sex is hot and well written with light BDSM. I loved how they both are doing something that they never done before. He never dates as in wining and dining and she has never had a casual fling. I read book 2 but for some reason do not have a review. I see a re-read in my future.

$0.99
No Strings Attached (Falling For You Book 1)
By Nicolette Day
Pages: 62

Rating: 4 Stars - Loved It
Jace had me during the body shot scene with his over protective attitude.

Hayden: “Wait. What are you doing?”

Jace: “A shot.” He leaned close enough to whisper in her ear. “Or would you rather me beat the shit out of some poor guy for putting his mouth on you?”

Not only is best friends turn to lovers one of my favorite genre but an over protective best friend is a bonus. Hayden and Jace sure steamed up my e-reader and loved them together. The body shot scene is the best. I usually do not rate short novella’s more than 3 stars - Liked It, because something is always missing, but Nicolette Day had me falling for Jace in the beginning and the story line fell nicely through out the novel.

Free
Seven Sons (Gypsy Brothers #1)
By Lili St. Germain
Pages: 112

Rating: 4 stars - Loved It
What an interesting and different read. A bit on the dark side but with Jase the younger brother does bring some lightness to it. Not a fan of her actions sexually with a certain character but it is her determination to get revenge that I like. I did get this book free and thankfully was able to get the Gypsy Brothers: Complete Series on sale a while back for $0.99.

Erotic Romance

Free
Rocky Mountain Heat (Six Pack Ranch #1)
By Vivian Arend
Pages: 162

Rating: 5 Stars - Amazing
Vivian Arend knows how to write about love, friendship with a sexy alpha male cowboy. I loved Blake’s character as he is a brooding, sweet, dirty talker and a bit jealous hero. All I will say is I want Blake, peaches and a dining room table. Vivian Arend is a master at writing some scorching but tasteful sex scenes. The fact that he is 10 years older than Jaxi is a bonus for me. Loving family with 6 delicious brothers that add so much fun to Blake and Jaxi story.

Review / QT & L4C Meme: Confess by Colleen Hoover

Hello. Today I am sharing my review, Lusting For Covers Meme and Quote-Tastic meme for Confess by Colleen Hoover

Spoil Free Review

Rating 3 Stars - Liked It
After watching the mini series trailer for Confess I had to bump it up on my TBR pile ASAP.  Colleen Hoover is a mastermind when it comes to originality. I loved the confessions and actual paintings.

Well I did not love Confess has much I was hoping for. On the other hand I did not hate it either. What happened to her alpha male heroes I love to read about. Emory who is Auburn's best girlfriend has more balls than Owen. I understand why Owen at times did have to stand down but I really needed him on quite a few occasions do some serious ass kicking. I was actually shocked a few times he did not step in. In one scene I actually did not like him for not stepping in.

I was missing the sexual tension and  couple chemistry Colleen Hoover is known for in her books. Owen and Auburn were cute and a bit awkward together. I liked it but was still not always feeling their chemistry.  I loved and respected them as individuals. They are both selfless and the sacrifices they endure for their loved ones is sad and beautiful.

Confess is broken down in Two Parts. Part One was boring. I kept waiting for something major to happen and nothing did until the last chapter. Part Two was a bit better than Part One as I could not swipe my kindle fast enough but still I needed some situations to be dealt with more.

Overall Confess was not a bad read. I did feel that there was too many serious themes happening.  I felt a lot of  times certain scenarios were rushed and not fleshed out. I was really shocked by this because Colleen Hoover is a amazing story teller who can bring out different emotions. Confess should of been one of those books where I could laugh, cry, get angry and go all fan girl on the hero. Unfortunately the execution and emotions were not there for me.

I think this will be one of those occasions where I will like the on-screen better.

Sweet Temptation Feature: Too Wilde To Tame By Tonya Burrows

Sweet Temptation is a feature on Wickedly Delicious Book Blog. That centers around books that have caught my attention. Whether it be a quote, snippet, teaser, excerpt, synopsis or a review.

Thoughts
I know I already did a Tonya Burrows book just recently but the synopsis for Too Wilde To Tame has caught my attention. I do not know why but I love neighbors in my reads. I really want to dive straight  into Greer and Natalie story. I will most likely start from book 1 as I also love brothers in my reads.
